Yesterday, I worked a birthday party for a young girl turning six. As I was preparing to begin the show, I noticed a small face staring at me from outside through the living room window. It was a little girl about four years old. She was barely tall enough for her eyes to peer above the window sill. At one point I waved to her through the window which caused her to quickly duck down below the window sill. Her mother saw what happened and explained, "You'll have to excuse my daughter because she is afraid of clowns." I told her, "No problem I understand."
It was now time to start the show and all went extremely well. After the show I began making balloon animals for all of the children as I typically do. After the second or third child this same little girl who was shrinking behind the window walked right up to me with the biggest grin I have ever seen looked me straight in the eyes and proudly stated, " You know what? I'm not afraid of you anymore." From that point on, she kept coming up to me and talking with me to heart's content. She followed me everywhere I went even as I was cleaning up and on my way out to my car. It was at this point she asked, "Do you like kids?" I told her that I love kids. She then asked, "Are you going to miss us?" I told her that was going to miss them all terribly. Her reply was , "Well, we are going to miss you and can you come back tomorrow?"
Just another one of those heart warming experiences that make clowning so rewarding.
